We’ve all seen them:—vintage cars from days gone by that look good and sound better as they navigate their way around town or are on display at an annual car show. When is My Car Considered a Classic?
In South Carolina, there are three levels of special cars and the age they qualify for special status.
If your vehicle is at least 10 years old, it may qualify as a classic or collector’s car. These include limited-production vehicles, cars with a history, and modified antiques.
Cars more than 25 years old are considered to be antique. These cars can have no modifications or be restored to their original condition.
When a car is classic or antique, it can only be used minimally. This includes being used in parades, being shown in exhibits, or participating in special club activities.
Classic cars may also have restrictions on usage and on the mileage allowed per year. Ask our agent about a flexible usage policy, which restricts mileage versus types of events.
Classic Car Qualifications and Coverage
When you want to know about classic car insurance, it is important to know that not all cars qualify for coverage. When you talk with one of our agents, we will discuss your car’s age, value, and any other specifications that may render it ineligible.
If your classic car has been customized or modified, classic car insurance may include this in the coverage.
Coverage usually covers collision, medical, bodily injury, legal claims, liability, and comprehensive.
